A former chairmanship aspirant in Lagos Island East Local Council
Development Area on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)
in the last election in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, Segun
Adekunle-Alli, has decried what he describes as government’s confusion
on the best way to handle the Boko Haram menace.
Adekunle-Alli
particularly expressed worries over President Jonathan’s statement
during the last presidential media chat that the Boko Haram members
constantly defied government’s efforts because they often come up with
strategies.
According to him, the president had admitted failure
in this regard by publicly disclosing that the country’s security agents
cannot effectively tackle the sect.
“It is a case to sincerely worry about especially at a time when people no longer trust even their close neighbours.
“The
president should have used the opportunity of the media chat to douse
tension and give positive messages to the people rather than running the
country’s security agencies,” he lamented, adding that since becoming
president of the country, Jonathan had often made controversial
statement that have always resulted in criticisms against his
government.
The ACN chieftain advised those around the president
to always vet whatever statements he makes in public since Nigerians
were getting frustrated with the country’s current situation.
He
also urged security chiefs in the country not to continue to relax in
the face of serious insecurity, noting that they are paid with public
funds to maintain peace.
“A situation where peace eludes those who pay you to secure them, then you have no job being there,” he advised.
He
tasked Nigerians to be security conscious as they go about their daily
activities and urged them to always report every suspicious activities.
